Magic and Politics

Yesterday I played in my first Magic tournament in two months at the RMIT cafeteria which was the Betrayers of Kamigawa pre-release. I nearly turned up too late as I slept in as usual after a long and paralysing day at Monash Clayton discussing with my faculty about returning to my course before spending the afternoon in the wonderful surrounds of my employer Ucorp (what a name).

I did all right, considering I've been out of action for so long. In six rounds I managed to get three wins, two losses and one draw. Unfortunately, even though I managed my first win against one of the best players in the nation, I was on the wrong end of Lady Luck all day and should have really won all six matches were it not for misregistering my deck and getting a game loss or getting poor draws. I can't complain much I finished 7th in the serious flight of a Pre-release (previous best was 4th) a far cry from the scrub days of my early years.

Back to the Muggle side of the equation it seems that Krudd is (in my view wisely) considering pulling out of the race for the ALP leadership. Pragmatically it seems that Sleazlebub, despite being a two-time loser (albeit the second time to an aberration of world affairs) is the only viable option as the electorate isn't going to warm to an untried candidate next time. Julia Gillard is much more palatable to my tastes but realistically isn't going to command enough votes in light of the current intrigue within the Great Cogworks.

I might go to the Australian Open today.
